Rajya Sabha Member Subramanian Swamy congratulated new Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa adding that India will benefit by having good ties with Sri Lanka under Rajapakse’s leadership. It was seen as the first reaction from India to the change that was brought in by the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the new Prime Minister by President after the announcement that the SLFP, a key constituent of the
National government was leaving the coalition. He was quoted in Indian media as saying, “I’m happy because he is a staunch nationalist. He’ll not sacrifice this sovereignty even one bit for any country/terrorist group.
