
Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi, on Friday, called on Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in New Delhi.
Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance, Sonia Gandhi, was also present at the meeting, along with former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and senior Congress Party leader Anand Sharma.
Wickremasinghe arrived in India on Thursday on a three-day official visit.
The Prime Minister also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
The concluding meeting was held with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, at the Taj Hotel in New Delhi, where they discussed the initiatives taken by the Sri Lankan Government to liberalise maritime transportation in the Indian Ocean.
Dr Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Anand Sharma attended the meeting representing the Congress and both parties exchanged ideas on political and economic developments in the region. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe extended an invitation to them to visit Sri Lanka.
Petroleum Resources Development Minister, Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Youth Affairs, Project Management and Southern Development Minister, Sagala Ratnayake, Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrema, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Chithranganee Wagishwara, Secretary to the Prime Minsiter Saman Ekanayake, Additional Secretary to the PM Saman Athaudahetti comprised the delegation.
