Veteran radio and cinema actress, Rathnawali Kekunawela passed away yesterday(07). Kekunawela first gained popularity for her part as Korale’s Menike in radio teledrama Muwan Palessa, the longest radio drama in Sri Lanka which began broadcasting on SLBC in the 1960s. She later acted the same character on the Muwan Palassa (1979) movie.
Kekunawela was also known for her acting in the movies, Juliette ge Bhoomikawa (1998), Nilambare (2006) and Paya Enna Hiru Se (2009), Bora Diya Pokuna (2004).
She was aged 88 at the time of her demise.
