Bribe attempt foiled
A 42-year-old man was arrested by the Malimbada Police on Friday for attempting to bribe a Police officer attached to the Police station. According to the Police, the man had offered Rs.15,000 to the officer to prevent his Cannabis farm from being raided. The man was arrested during the bribe attempt Police said. Malimbada Police are investigating.
Motorcyclist killed in Mawanella
A man was killed when he lost control of the motorcycle he was travelling in and crashed into a lorry on Friday. According to the Police, the incident had occurred in Lollegoda Mawanella. While the motorcyclist and the pillion rider were admitted to the hospital following the accident, the motorcyclist had later succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Dhanushka Niroshan of Waharakgoda, Ussapitiya.
Two suspected thieves arrested
The Kankesanthurai Crime Investigation Division on Friday arrested two men suspected to have stolen valuables from a house in Point Pedro. Acting on a tip-off received officers were able to recover two televisions, two DVD players, one camera and a gold nugget weighing three pounds. The suspects are said to be 21-year-old youths from Point Pedro. Division CID officers are investigating.
