AMW Pitstop helped the Police to get its inaugural ‘Best Driver’ Campaign off to a rousing start in Kandy where 300 drivers were flagged into a pleasant ‘pit-stop’ to be rewarded for courteous and disciplined driving.
The Police deployed a special team in civvies to monitor traffic in and around Kandy. Where usually only road rule violators are stopped by the Police, the special ‘Best Driver’ Campaign saw 300 drivers being stopped, first to their bewilderment which soon turned into euphoria.
Policemen in civvies identified the drivers who displayed courtesy to other motorists and pedestrians in a notable manner and communicated the details to uniformed Policemen manning the roads where the identified motorists were stopped to their surprise, to be congratulated by the Police for exemplary conduct on the road. The 300 drivers were issued a citation for good driving in the form of a special windscreen sticker with a number and a gift worth Rs. 3000 to be redeemed at the all-brand, all-vehicle AMW Service Centre in Kandy, AMW Pitstop. Kandy SP 01, H.S. N. Peris and OIC Traffic Kandy, Inspector M.W. A. Uvindasiri said, “The Police is compelled to tighten traffic rules due to worsening acts of violations.
Obviously, the traffic police has the unpleasant task of bringing wrong-doers to book. A novel scheme to identify and reward good driving is much welcome news to the Police as much as it is to good drivers,” they said.
“We are delighted to be the first corporate partner for this thoughtful and amazing program that will certainly create a lot of goodwill,” said Director of AMW, Nalaka Madugalle.
