Navy rescues Indian vessel crew

The Sri Lanka Navy rescued the seven-member India crew from a Maldives-bound merchant vessel last morning.

The Indian merchant vessel sank in the seas south of Sri Lanka, near Galle owing to a mechanical fault.

According to the Navy, the Indian crew in distress

was rescued and brought safely to the Galle Harbour. All seven Indian sailors are in good health and arrangements have been made to hand them over to the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka for repatriation.
