A worker from a construction site down Galle Face Road, Colombo shows his gratitude to war heroes by donning a poppy flower when the Sri Lankan Ex-Servicemen’s Association organised a ‘poppy flower campaign walk’ yesterday. The red poppy has become a powerful symbol of remembrance to commemorate the soldiers killed during the First World War.
This year Sri Lanka will commemorate the annual War Heroes Day on November 11 in Colombo. The Association has already launched the ‘Poppy flower campaign’ the proceeds of which will be utilized for the well-being of Ex-Servicemen and their dependents.
