The Maha Bodhi Society of India will celebrate the 153rd Birth Anniversary of the great revivalist of Buddhism in India and World Buddhist Leader – Bodhisattva Anagarika Dharmapala on September 17 at Buddhagaya Centre of the Society at Buddhagaya.
Anagarika Dharmapala, the relentless crusader of the revival of Buddhism in India and a pioneer in the spread of Buddhism in the West is regarded as Bodhisattva throughout the world. Among his many deeds, he is remembered for re-establishing the rights of the Buddhists in the Maha Bodhi temple of Buddhagaya and the restoration of Buddhist holy places in India. He is also remembered as a great patriot and freedom fighter for the independence of Sri Lanka.
The Maha Bodhi Society of India established by him in 1891, is carrying his legacy since then in alleviating suffering of humanity through its many branches spread over India and abroad.
