A concealed stock of hand grenades has been discovered in a house in Mawathagama, the Police Media Unit said.
According to the Police, the owner of the house in Roberthillwatta, Kotikapola had discovered several suspicious parcels hidden in the ceiling of the house.
According to police media spokesman, SP Ruwan Gunasekara, the owner had informed the Mawathagama Police through the 119 Emergency Hotline following the discovery.
On inspection of the parcels, investigation officers had recovered three grenades and a stock of live bullets from the site. While the Police have informed the Pillassa Magistrate’s Courts regarding the incident, the Police Special Task Force (STF) has been ordered to further inspect the confiscated explosives, the Police said. Mawathagama Police will carry out further investigations to find out the source of the explosives.
