Sri Lanka should have been the first country to offer assistance

28 May, 2017

It is advisable for Sri Lanka Cricket Board to review the security of the national side when they take part in the championship trophy in England, where asIndia has taken prompt action. Sri Lanka being a country which suffered for over 3 decades of terrorism should make note of it and take all precautionary actions, as we have some of the best men in counter terrorism specially handling and identification of explosives and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device).

The methods and tactics used by the terrorists are very much similar to the LTTE used in Sri Lanka. STF is one unit who identified threat well in advance and neutralized many situations, even India made use of our knowledge and experience to train their security personnel in handling of IEDs in connection with personal security.

Sri Lanka should have been the first to come forward to help England at this juncture, as our experience and knowledge is very hard to match by any other country. It will definitely give confidence and strength to the tournament security strategy and as nobody can challenge or come near Sri Lanka as far as counter terrorism strategy is concerned. I hope the authority will look at this aspect from a practical angle before it is too late.
