
Sri Lanka Army staged its masterpiece, ‘Inginalu Samagin Vesak Bakthi Gee at Nelum Pokuna theatre to a distinguished gathering of invitees, headed by Secretary to the President, P.B Abeykoon, as Chief Guest, Mrs Abeykoon, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Chrisanthe De Silva, and President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit Nayana De Silva,.
The colourful and glittering spectacle coincided with the UN Vesak Day commemoration in Sri Lanka and the National Vesak festival, for which thousands of army personnel dedicated their time and effort in the past few weeks, has been choreographed by professional artistes in the Directorate of Army Band and Performing Arts under the close supervision of the Adjutant General’s office - Army Headquarters.
A team of 150 ballet dancers, 40 vocalists, along with a 40-member orchestra enhanced the spectacular event, where phenomenal life stages of the Buddha were articulated to the tune of soothing melodies.
The event, designed on a conceptual notion of the Commander of the Army lined up partly the Birth, Enlightenment and the Parinibbana (passing away) of the Buddha, and a series of ancient royal traditions and different life story sagas.
A large gathering of disabled War Heroes, together with, Secretary Defence, Eng Karunasena Hettiarachchi Secretary to the Minister of Law & Order and Prison Reforms, Jagath P Wijeweera, Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, Commander of the Air Force, Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara, Senior Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police Officers and invitees witnessed the creative event.
