
Man shot dead in Imaduwa
A 42-year-old man was shot dead in the Imaduwa area yesterday morning (Saturday) by two assailants who arrived on a motorcycle .
According to the Police the victim had been accompanying his children to a private tuition class when he was gunned down. The victim has been identified as Devamuni Sudath Priyantha, a resident of Undugoda, Dikkumbura. While the victim was declared dead on admission to the Karapitiya hospital, Police say initial investigations reveal that the killing was due to an on-going personal dispute between the man and his assailants.
House of ill-repute raided
The Western Province Anti Corruption Unit raided a brothel in Borella on Friday, arresting the manager of the establishment, two assistants, two Thai women and eight other females suspected to have engaged in prostitution. The suspects are said to be from Colombo, Ukuwela, Kuliyapitiya, Ridigama, Gampaha, Polonnaruwa, Galgamuwa and Avissawella areas.
Policeman killed in accident
A Sub-Inspector attached to the Chavakachcheri police station was killed when the motorcycle he was travelling in collided head-on with another motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction in the Vadaliyadaippu area on Friday. Three others including the rider of the other motorcycle are receiving treatment at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old, Thurai Rajasingham.
Body of infant found in Gokarella
A body of a newborn infant was found inside a house in Gokarella on Friday. According to the Police, a woman had given birth to the child inside the house and later killed the infant and dumped the body in a basin.
The mother of the child has been admitted to the Kurunegala hospital. Police said. Gokarella Police are carrying out further investigations.
