
Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi assumed duties as the Commander Security Force (SF) Jaffna on Thursday March 30. A Guard of Honour was accorded to the incoming Commander by the troops of the 10 Field Engineers Regiment on arrival to the Headquarters SF (J).
Having joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in March 1984, Maj. Gen. Hettiarachchi, a proud product of Ananda College Colombo, was posted as a Second Lieutenant to the Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment on November 16, 1985.
During his career spanning over 33 years, he held many Command and Staff appointments and served in many operational areas. Maj. Gen. Hettarachchi was sent on many local and foreign professional courses.
He is a Graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Bangladesh (1997/1998).
Further, he has obtained a Masters Degree in ‘Conflict Resolution’ from the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Colombo in 2005. Maj. Gen. Hettiarrachchi was appointed Commissioner General of Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms in February 2012 and he held that appointment until July 2013. (D.J)
