
President Maithripala Sirisena will open the three-storied new building at Kurunegala Defence Services Viru Daru Vidu Piyasa College (VDVPC) and award 2000 more ‘Virusara’ Privilege Cards to Tri-service, Police and Civil Security Department War Heroes in the North Western Province at a ceremony to be held on March 29 at Kurunegala.
The new VDVPC building which had the blessings of the President and State Minister of Defence was constructed at a cost Rs 215 million.
The technical staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Department of Engineering in the North Western Province, too contributed to the project.
The new building, with 41 class rooms, IT laboratories, libraries, administrative offices and a cafeteria with modern facilities will enable the VDVPC to absorb more children from tri-service families.
At present classes from Grade 1 to Grade 9 are being conducted.
The VDVPC has excelled in under 13 cricket, chess, karate, football and athletics.
A total of 2000 more disabled war heroes and family members of fallen war heroes in the North Western Province will receive ‘Virusara’ Privilege Cards.
The Ranaviru Seva Authority will also award scholarships to widows and children in professional courses, sponsored by private sector companies and the Ranaviru Seva Authority.
Over 30,000 Tri-Service War Heroes and family members, have received ‘Virusara’ Privilege Cards issued by the Ranaviru Seva Authority of the State Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Defence.
