
At least 37 people were injured in a serious three-vehicle accident in Galgamuwa yesterday.
The accident had taken place on the Anuradhapura-Padeniya main road at the Maha Galkadawala junction at around 7.10 yesterday morning.
A bus transporting garment factory workers to a manufacturing plant in the area had been entering the main road from the Giribawa Road when a lorry plying from Galgamuwa to Anuradhapura had struck the bus from behind which in turn crashed on to an oncoming SLTB bus.
According to the Police, the driver of the bus carrying the workers had lost control of the bus resulting in the second crash.
Thirty-seven people including garment factory workers and members of the public travelling in the SLTB bus were injured and admitted to the Galgamuwa Base Hospital.
According to the Police Media Unit, six of those admitted were later transferred to the Anuradhapura and Kurunegala hospital for further treatment.
Galgamuwa Police have arrested the drivers, of the bus which transported garment workers and of the lorry. A team of officers of the Galgamuwa Police are carrying out further investigations.
