
To face the water crisis during the drought in the country, the Government has taken steps to sink 400 new tube well and to restore the existing 1,500 tube wells.
“There are more than 35,000 common wells and tube wells that are not presently used for obtaining water and hence, all these well would be restored to ease the possible shortage of drinking water due to the effects of expected drought,” said NWP-PC Chief Minister Dharmasiri Dassanayake speaking at a media conference at the Kurunegala District Secretariat recently.
The Chief Minister called on the public to use water resources sparingly by minimizing waste.
All government resources would be utilized to offer relief measures to the people of Sri Lanka due to the drought and Rs. 340 million would be allocated to provide drinking water for the people of North Western Province during this year.
He added that a program to educate people of both Kurunegala and Puttalam districts on saving water too would be launched this week at school level.
