UPFA Kandy District Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that discussions were underway to form a broad anti-Government alliance to oppose the Government tooth and nail.
There is a huge public demand to form a new political force against this government. A lot of political parties have rallied around the Joint Opposition (JO) to fulfill this public requirement, the JO front liner told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
At present discussions are going on to form an anti-government people’s movement.
“At present, we can’t make any further comment on the exact time and date of this new political force. The JO has already implemented an anti-government program,” he said.
“May be a political party will be launched first and later transformed into a broad political alliance. Our intention is to seek the support of all anti-government forces under the banner of this new political alliance. All the constituent parties of the JO have given their consent to form a broad anti-government alliance,” Aluthgamage said.
He said that the SLFP MPs in the JO also implement President Maithripala Sirisena’s agenda. “However, we will keep our political strategies a secret until the eleventh hour.”
UPFA Ratnapura District MP Ranjith de Zoysa said that the people face immense hardship due to the acts of this ‘Yahapalana’ Government.
In the circumstances, there is an urgent need for a genuine anti-government people’s movement.
Whatever election is to be held, Local Government, Provincial Council or Parliamentary, the people are anxiously waiting to give a good response to this anti-people Government.
MP Zoysa said, if the coalition Government doesn’t fulfill the peoples’ aspirations, “we will stress the need for a broader anti-government front. We have already commenced discussions with all anti-government forces to form a broad alliance to oppose the Government.”
