Etihad promotion ends tomorrow

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is offering travellers from Sri Lanka attractive savings in its Global Sale.

Guests travelling in Business and Economy Class from Colombo can choose from a range of destinations across Europe and North America. Tickets are on sale until October 31 and are valid for travel between January 15 and June 30.

Etihad Airways currently operates twice-daily scheduled flights from Colombo to the airline’s Abu Dhabi hub offering convenient connections and seamless journeys to destinations worldwide.

Etihad Airways’ guests could pre-clear US Immigration and Customs before boarding their US-bound flights at Abu Dhabi International Airport saving significant time on arrival. This facility is one of the first of its kind in the Middle East, enabling international travellers to arrive as domestic passengers in the USA, avoiding the need to queue at immigration.


Channa de Silva

New Chairman at Sarvodaya Finance

Sarvodaya Development Finance appointed Channa de Silva as its new Chairman following the retirement of Eastman Narangoda, who led the transformation process of Sarvodaya Development Finance formerly known as Deshodaya Development Finance Company Limited (DDFC).

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colombo and a Master’s Degree each from Harvard University (USA) and Melbourne University (Australia).

de Silva was formerly Deputy Chairman and Independent Non Executive Director on the Board of Sarvodaya Development Finance. He is the current Managing Director of Summit Finance and a former Director of Pan Asia Bank PLC.


Dreamron appoints new Group CEO

Neil Samarasinghe joined Dreamron as Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) recently. He started his career as a sales representative at Nestle and has 32 years of experience in the consumer food sector of John Keells Holdings PLC. Samarasinghe has given the leadership to all three product categories of, Elephant House ice cream, soft drinks and processed meat and has achieved several milestones throughout his career.

Starting his career as a sales representative, he moved on to become Sales Manager, National Sales Manager, Group Sales Manager, Director, Assistant Vice President and finally Vice President at JKH. Samarasinghe said his decision to join Dreamron was because he believes that the Dreamron Group of Companies indicates a great potential to grow by challenging the lifestyle of Sri Lankans and the region by export market expansion.


Planters clarify statement

The Planter’s Association of Ceylon (PA) issued a media release clarifying its last statement on the recently signed Collective Agreement.

The statement: “The PA issues the following statement in clarification and regrets any inconvenience caused.

“The Planter’s Association of Ceylon wishes to thank Minister of Plantation Industries, Navin Dissanayake, Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations, John Seneviratne and Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickreme for their crucial support in securing a consensus on the recently signed collective agreement between estate trade unions and the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon.”


DFCC Bank goes for Rs. 4 b debenture issue

 DFCC Bank has launched its Debenture Issue to raise Rs. 4 billion with an option to go up to Rs. 7 billion in the event of an over subscription. The purpose of this Issue is to strengthen the Tier II capital of the Bank while supporting its lending operations in the Corporate, Business and SME sectors. In addition, it will mitigate DFCC’s interest rate risk by reducing asset and liability maturity mismatches.

The Debentures rated A+ (lka) by Fitch Ratings Lanka Ltd., is attractively structured with five-year and seven-year tenors, carrying fixed annual coupons of 12.15% and 12.75%. The Subordinated, Redeemable and Unsecured Debentures will be listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange, and the minimum subscription is Rs. 10,000. The Issue will open on Wednesday, November 2. Head of Treasury and Resource Mobilisation of DFCC Bank, Kapila Nanayakkara said, “The decision to go public with this Issue is to give alternative investment opportunities to retail and institutional investors. They could earn a fixed rate of return over a period of five years or seven years depending on their appetite.”The Issue is structured by DFCC Bank’s Treasury and Resource Mobilisation Unit and managed by Capital Alliance Partners Limited and Acuity Partners (Pvt) Ltd.


Robbialac partners SLIA as principal sponsor for 2017

Lankem Robbialac joined the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects as its Principal Partner for 2017.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed last week at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, The SLIA was represented by its Senior Vice President Archt. D.H Wijewardena and Lankem Ceylon PLC by its Director Ruwan T. Weerasinghe.

HNB Singithi Savings Day attracts children of  all ages

75 customer Centres of Hatton National Bank (HNB) around Sri Lanka were filled with excited children of all ages on Saturday 22 October as the bank celebrated “Singithi Savings Day” with a mega programme.

The Singithi Savings Day programme included a number of games and activities such as an art competition,face painting,musical chairs,magic shows, muppet shows and cartoon shows. All children enthusiastically took part in the activities and were seen enjoying themselves thoroughly throughout the pragramme.


CEAT hosts awards night in Rome for top dealers  
CEAT Kelani Holdings held a celebration in Rome for 125 of the company’s top dealers. The highlight of a five-day, all-expenses-paid visit to Italy - where the CEAT brand name originated 92 years ago - was the awards ceremony at the Mercure West Roma Hotel where tyre dealers from all parts of Sri Lanka were recognised and rewarded for their contribution to CEAT’s growth in 2015-16.
