The gleam in JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka’s eye as he is greeted by his host, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s Parliament, the National People’s Congress, Dejiang Zhang, may reflect a sense of triumph that, at last, he, an ideological progeny of Maoism in Sri Lanka, is hosted in the original home of the ‘revolutionary’ ideology that once inspired many a social movement worldwide. Dissanayaka was part of the Parliamentary delegation that visited China last week led by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. Media Minister Gayantha Karunatilaka and Opposition and TNA leader R. Sampanthan were also in the delegation. Photo courtesy Parliament
