
The Sri Lanka Navy Media Office confirmed that the Tri lateral Naval Exercise code named Dosti X111 will be conducted in the Maldives commencing on October 25.
The joint training exercise combines vessels from the Indian Coast Guard (ICGS), Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and aims to enhance the interoperability of forces whilst strengthening cooperation.
The exercise will fortify friendship and camaraderie, enhance mutual operational capability and build on the existing cooperation among the forces in the areas of Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR) Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Maritime Pollution response and Anti- Piracy Operations. The exercise will cover aspects of seamanship, naval communications, weapons systems, ship boarding using small crafts whilst combining advanced technology. India is represented by ICGS Samudra Pavak and ICGS Aadesh.
Built in 2011, ICGS Samudra Pavak has a displacement of 3000 tons with a length of 94 meters and boasts of an endurance of 6500 nautical miles. The CRN-91 gun is her primary weapon.
Attaining a top speed of 20 knots she is manned by a crew of 110 men. The vessel is powered by two Rolls –Royce B32 diesel engines. The Samudra Pavak specializes in marine pollution control.
