The Janaza (funeral) of Adhil Bakeer Markar, son of respected politician and current chairman of National Media Center Imthiaz Bakeer Markar will take place today (16) evening at 5 p.m. at the Jawatte Jumma Mosque.
Adhil passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness in London last Wednesday (October 12). According to family sources the body is to be flown to Sri Lankan today in the earliest available flight.
Adhil, an Attorney-at-Law and a Chevening scholar was studying for his Masters in Comparative Politics at The London School of Economics and Political Science, at the time of his death. Many known to him from all walks of life expressed their shock and while admiring his personality noted that he was an example to children of other politicians.
An old boy of Royal College, he was a Director at the National Youth Services Council, Ministry Economic Affairs and Policy Planning. Adhil was also an Official Sri Lankan Youth Delegate to the United Nations and represented Sri Lanka at the 68th United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
