It is important to launch a green building master plan in the country and encourage more contractors to come on board. Sri Lanka is recovering from a recent destruction and the construction industry has become the main focus due to this, Minister of Megapolis and Western Province Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka said.
Sri Lanka has not much headway in the green building initiative and needs to do more to enable the construction industry to adopt more green practices, he said at the opening of the Construction Expo 2017 held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Hall in Colombo.
“While encouraging new disciplines in the construction industry in Sri Lanka, the green initiative emphasizes the importance of sustainable construction industry. Everyone will have to join the green movement. We should consider goals of green building which is sustainable environment. Green building is something that everyone should embark on,” he said.
It is not hard as people think it is. We have to conceptualize and bridge the gap of green building to be applicable to Sri Lanka. The construction industry stakeholders should take the lead role and the general public should adopt the green tips, the Minister said.
The Construction Expo 2017 showcasing new trends in the industry under the green initiative is the largest expo in the sector. The theme of the event is ‘towards a green Sri Lanka’.
