The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation presents Swarna Jayanthi – Yuga Yuga Hadha Bethi Gee singing groups song festival at the BMICH on March 5 (today) at 6.30 p.m. One of the groups taking part will be the Sri Lankians the calypso, Latin and folk band. Formed in 1976, the band today comprises, Visaka Samarawickrama – percussion and vocals, leader Sarath Samarawickrama – guitar and vocals, Aelian Tilakarathna – guitar and vocals and Sri Nade Silva – congas and vocals. Sri Lankians music career has been outstanding.

They have performed at many leading hotels in Colombo and outstations, appeared on ITN, Rupavahini, Sirasa and Swarnavahini, not forgetting their performances at hotels abroad. In fact, the places they have gone to, reads like a passport. In short as Sarath clues us in, they have completed 47 tours and visited something like 14 countries.

So make a date with the Sri Lankians today at the BMICH.
