Professor Sampath Amaratunge, the Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) explained the removal of the monument in the University of Jaffna.
The said monument was erected around 2018 and the removal took place as it can be an obstacle for peace in South and North, Professor Amarathunga explained. The decision of the removal was made by Professor Sri Sadgunaraja, the Vice Chancellor of Jaffna University yesterday evening (08).
Professor Amaratunge further stated “We do not want war memorials but peace monuments.”
