Sri Lanka - My Home

30 June, 2019

Among the many that Asia can be proud
Still it is Sri Lanka to world that one can speak loud
Sri Lanka is a country of rare beauty
Which should be admired and upheld as their duty
As a worldwide favourite tourist destination
Offers a lot to their wide imagination
Destinations ranging from breathtaking splendour
Compelling one to wonder, why this grandeur?
Places far above sea level are ringed by a range of mountains
Panoramic view you enjoy as if from a joyous fountain
Rivers, lakes, waterfalls decorate the landscape
Where no visitor, a fresher to the isle can escape
Some of the better known, unique local attractions
Are mostly found in hill country and its scenic locations
It is here you find famous tea plantations in plenty
With a display of green terraces, neat and pretty
Nuwara Eliya, a popular tourist city, very grand
To imperial masters it was Little England
A home away from home with cool clime shadows
With nature grazing the area with lush green meadows
In deep South are massive Dagabas playing a dominant role
In the pious lives of every Buddhist soul
Endless acres of paddy exhibit the ancient splendour
Bearing evidence to the services that reservoirs render
These Stupas and reservoirs are mostly man made
Giving life to villages – the monuments that never fade
Evergreen paddy giving a bountiful harvest
Made Sri Lanka self-sufficient and granary of the East
As descendants, religious followers and relations
Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and Burgher formed the population
They all lived well giving unity prominence
Creating peace and harmony for coexistence
It is not too late to make a thorough clean
Of the terrific, undesirable elements unseen
Then all individuals should rise up as one nation
Purely for your own good and that of the future generation
