A companiondeparted

30 June, 2019

I had a companion in college
Who was most grateful and faithful
He figured as my symbol of innocence
Cared for as no other creature there.
For two long years I fed him at day break
And shared my lunch every time I ate there
On holidays, even on, Avurudu day
The first thing I did was cycle his meal to college.
On Vesak Poya day and the day before
He missed his breakfast for I was away
Next day on arrival, his face was missing
Missing for ever from the burden of life.
“Kalu left you and all of us
When a bike hit him on the road
He was trying to cross from the other side
After looking at the closed tea stall in your absence.”
