Angeline Gunathilaka’s funeral on April 2

Veteran songstress Angeline Gunathilaka passed away on Friday while receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Colombo. She was 79.

Gunathilaka was born in Matara in 1939. She entered the music scene at 13, when she joined the popular children’s musical program, Lama Pitiya of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (then known as Radio Ceylon). Following her debut as a playback singer in the film Sohoyuro screened in 1958, Gunathilaka recorded over 5,000 songs. The last rites of the artiste will be held at the General Cemetery Borella on Tuesday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
