Music is synonymous with Moratuwa and undoubtedly it has been over the years. Many are the groups and individual artistes who have emerged from this seaside town and our guess is that there will be many more to come. One of the leading groups that have stood the test of time and earned popularity is the Golden Chimes with Lankika who need no formal introduction to our music industry. Their popularity has taken them overseas countless times for performances that have resulted in accolades.

All this is s preamble to give you the good news that the Old Boys of Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa, have organised a Cambrian Sing-a-Long with Lankika and the Golden Chimes for Saturday December 1 which will come alive at the Ramadia Hotel, Gorakana, from 7 p.m. onwards.

Tickets for this exciting evening will include dinner as well as a free song book, containing the lyrics of 50 Sinhala and English songs that were favourites in the year 60s, 70s and 80s. But this is not all. We are informed by the organisers that as the saying goes “there are lots of prizes and surprises”.

So make it a point to be at the Cambrian Sing-a-long and sing your heart out. Speaking to Lankika we found out that the day December 1 holds a special significance for her.

“The day happens to be Chanaka’s birthday and our 47th Wedding Anniversary. Whats’ more four members of our band including Chanaka are Old Boys of Prince of Wales’ College and I am a past pupil of Princess of Wales’ College.” For further information of the event please contact the Project Chairman Anil Mendis.
