Shibly Aziz P.C:

Upright and honest with broad knowledge on constitutional matters

We are aware that none of us can escape death. Still when we hear of some deaths we begin to think that some of them deserved to live longer for the sake of our society. When I heard of the sudden passing away of our dear friend Shibly Aziz P.C. this thought immediately came to my mind. The country has lost a great patriotic citizen. He was 75 when he passed away.

I knew Aziz for several decades as an Attorney at Law, Attorney General of Sri Lanka and a President’s Counsel. For all Sarvodaya legal advice we approached him and he never charged any fee. But I came to know him intimately when we served in the Constitutional Council representing the civil society for three years along with Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy.

Both, at Council meetings and outside, the three of us met often to discharge the duties entrusted to us to the best of our ability. It was at these discussions that we realised the deep and broad knowledge and understanding he had with regard to law, judicial and constitutional matters. Furthermore, his unbiased and dispassionate assessment of human personalities was a great lesson to us.

This simple, unassuming, upright and honest human being left us so suddenly creating a vacuum in our society that cannot be filled easily. We express our grief and condolences to Mrs. Aziz, children and other family members.

Memories of 48 years

It is now three years since you left me lonely on August 21 2015. I mark this third anniversary with sorrow and the sweet memories of our 48 years of togetherness are the treasures I posses. Your birthday on October 10 was a sad day without your presence!

Margaret was a wonderful, devoted, loving and kind personality who endeavoured to keep everybody happy. She made our three children professionals under strict discipline in a Christian atmosphere for which they are ever grateful.

She was a great hostess who entertained our near and dear, with her cooking skills.

As much as I miss you, our children and grandchildren miss you a lot and speak of the stories you told them and your advice.

Margaret was the sixth gem in a family six brothers and one sister to the Rajamonies of Welihena, Kochchikade, Negombo.

Life is miserable without you and I reminisce the 48 lovely years we spent as husband and wife. In life I loved you, in death do I love you more and miss you, miss you!

You will live immortalised in my memories as a source of pride to the family.

Eternal Rest grant unto her. Oh Lord! Let light perpetual shine on her, May She Rest In Peace.
