Tata Motors, along with its distributor, Diesel & Motors Engineering PLC (DIMO) launched a stylish compact SUV, Tata Nexon in Colombo last week showing a jewel in DIMO’s crown.

President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, Mayank Pareek said, “Combining contemporary design with best-in-class technology and advanced features, the NEXON is meant for those who like to make a unique style statement.

“Since its launch in India, the NEXON has set new benchmarks in the compact SUV segment. It has been one of the most loved products from our PV portfolio.

“We are elated to introduce the manual and the AMT variants in Sri Lanka today. With the introduction of this entire range, we aim to tap a larger market and increase our market share in not only the Compact SUV segment but also the AMT segment.

“Sri Lanka is a land of peace and prosperity and we want to be a part of it. Tata Motors redefines its direction with new thinking of connecting aspirations with regard to styling and designing. With the launch, it will present the next level in technology.

“The car is packed with new features and we are confident that Sri Lankan consumers will embrace this car where the roads in the country will see this magic very shortly,” he said. Chairman and Managing Director, DIMO, Ranjith Pandithage said, “This is our first big step into the Compact SUV segment with Tata Motors. Continuing our long-standing relationship with Tata Motors, we are proud and confident to launch this product in our country and look forward to introduce many more new exciting products to Sri Lanka.

Our exceptional DIMO after sales care will complement the success of this product in Sri Lanka.”

“The two companies have a lot of synergies. We at DIMO are famous for commercial and passenger vehicles for decades. Tata which has the best technology in automotors, the technology will benefit the local consumers. However, it is sad to note that Sri Lanka has become a market for second hand junk,” he said.

Sri Lanka’s industry performance is increasing with the increase in GDP and disposable income.

The passenger vehicle industry have a lot of positivities in Sri Lanka. DIMO with its nine branches, seven display points and 24 customer centres is fully geared to serve the customers, he said. The Tata NEXON is a revolutionary design of ‘breaking the box’ with an aerodynamic silhouette. This enhances its sporty character and marks an evolution in SUV design by combining the functionality of an SUV with style of a sports coupe.

The NEXON flaunts two new engines, the 1.2L Turbocharged Petrol from the Revotron series and the 1.5L Diesel engine from the Revotorq series, mated to a six-speed transmission for class leading fuel efficiency.
