‘Mineral’, a unique display of handcrafted and hand-woven fashion jewellery will be held at the Cedar Room, Cinnamon Grand on June 9, 2018.
Unique are the creations. Some are made with natural jade and pearls; others have been turned out of wood and plants that have aged aesthetically. ‘Baroque’ or odd shaped pearls are what bring the jewellery both, a modern and a vintage look. Among other creations are ones with mother of pearl and of south sea pearls. Copper, brass, leather braids and material which the general populace won’t see as raw material for jewellery could be seen at the exhibition, emanating their exuberance.
The signature feature of this designer is the elegance and uniqueness of the jewellery, befitting the wearer any time anywhere. Indira de Silva, career woman and home-maker turned jewellery designer would hold her latest exhibition, ‘Minerals’ at the Cedar Room, Cinnamon Grand on June 9.
With a penchant for uniqueness, Indira takes pride in making individual pieces for clients. They are made to their liking, taking the clients personality into consideration. The designs so turned out could be worn with any outfit or style, she says.
The novelty at the exhibition would be her “copper woven jewellery” a new technique introduced into her creations this time. The pieces made out of copper do not tarnish, she says. “What you see are intricate designs that come in three colours, rose gold, a more orangy shade and a dark brownish copper which blends well with the average Sri Lankan complexion.” A recent introduction to her designer range is the collection created to match batik fabric. A selection of pearl necklaces and pendants that would suit all ages will be the highlight of the exhibition. Another new feature of the exhibition would be the choker style necklaces, with pendants, rings, handbags and shawls.
The collections at the exhibition range from pendants to bracelets, ethnic to abstract and vintage to modern. So are the materials she uses ranging from silver plated with white gold to copper and leather. Most importantly they are affordable though some are made with pearls and semi precious stones. They are stylish as well.
