Wesley College Islamic Prize Giving

The Islamic Students Majlis of the Wesley College Colombo organised its 48th Islamic Day Prize Giving Ceremony. It was held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium recently. It was held under the patronage of Principal of the College Avanka Fernando.

The chief guest, Ambassador of Turkey in Sri Lanka, Tunco Ozcuhado awarded the prizes to the winners.

Former Director of the Independent Television Network Hassim Omar received the first copy of the souvenir from Principal Avanka Fernando.

The guest speaker of the event was Senior Lecturer of the International Medical Campus, Inthikab Zufer. He mentioned in his speech that the Muslim Community has contributed a lot to our country. Wappichchi Marikkar, Dr. T.B. Jayah , Sir Razik Fareed and Dr. Baduideen Mahmood are some Muslim personalities to contributed. He said, “The Muslims lived with other communities’ in peace and harmony for many years. We should respect the other religions and live in peace and harmony.”

Over 200 schools were invited for the Islamic Day. Muslim Ladies College, Colombo became the champion in the finals received M. H. Mohamed Memorial Shield from Hussain Mohamed, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Islamic Centre.

Amana Bank Vice President (Operations) Imtiaz A. Iqbal, Sri Lanka Islamic Centre Secretary, Shahul Hameed Mohamed, Vice Principals Palitha Fernando, J.P. Jayarathna, Co Vice Principal Anjana Rathnayake, Muslim Majlis Master in Charge M.F. Hassan, Staff Advisor K.N. Packeeran, Colombo University Diploma in Journalism Association Secretary Marshad Barry, parents, teachers, old boys and students graced the event.
