“No statement has been taken from the individual yet due to his current mental state,” an officer

from the Police Media unit said, adding that it is unclear yet as to what took place on the day he went missing.

Police say the individual, identified as a popular private tuition teacher in the area can only recall that the vehicle plunged into the Viyana Canal.

The man appears to have no memory of the events thereafter.

The accident which led to the bizarre turn of events happened on April 26 when a luxury vehicle was found submerged in the Vienna canal near the 17-mile post in Mapakada, Mahiyangana but no victims were discovered. The Police and the Navy had been carrying out search operations since with a special investigation also commencing after it was discovered that his phone was still active.
