Veteran songstress Damayanthi Jayasooriya’s latest album of songs titled ‘Sitha Niwana Gee’ (Songs of serene joy) will be launched at the Buddhist Cultural Centre auditorium, Havelock Road, Colombo, on April 23 (Monday) at 5 pm. She is expected to sing a few songs from her new album at the event as a live performance, conducted by Janaka Fonseka with the state music group, Department of Cultural Affairs.
The launch will be presided over by Ven Prof.Pathegama Gnanissara Thera and a special speech will be delivered by Ven Nawalapitiye Anuradha Sudhammika Thera.
Damayanthi’s collection of songs was written by Ven. Rambukana Siddhartha Thera, Ven. Thirikunamale Ananda Thera, Ven. Madapatha Dhammasara Thera, Ven. Vennappuwe Chandananda Thera, Prof. Sunil Ariyarathna, Kularathna Ariyawansha, Dr. Praneeth Abhayasundara and Jayampathi Algama which were based on Bhuddhist themes.These songs were composed by Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe, Dr. Lionel Algama, Dr. Nanda Malini, H.M. Jayawardhana, M.R.Chulasinghe, Ajith Jayaweera, Dharshana Wicramathunga and Indrajith Mirihana.
