
The Science, Technology and Research Ministry has planned to send Sri Lanka’s first NANO technology satellite into space in 2020. Production will commence next year assisted by Russian scientists, Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
He was addressing the media after participating at an awards ceremony jointly organised by the Peradeniya University and the Nan Yang University of Singapore as the chieg guest at Amaya Hotel, Kandy.
Minister Premajayantha said he had observed students of the Samara University in Russia carrying out various experiments using NANO technology while on an official tour. The satellite would help SriLanka to obtain vital data relating to meteorology and several other fields.
The engineers from the Peradeniya University would be involved in the project, the Minister said.
