Shoes, socks for schoolchildren

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG)’s banking entity The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU); Colombo Representative Office presented brand new shoes and socks worth about Rs 200,000 to children who were affected by the floods in May 2016.

The ceremony was held at the Munidasa Kumarathunga Vidyalaya, in Kaduwela, where shoes and socks were presented to students.

Speaking on the occasion, General Manager for BTMU Chennai and Colombo Shinichi Kimijima, said: “It is a privilege to donate shoes for needy children through our “MUFG gives back” program.

BTMU’s Colombo staff also conducted an awareness session on financial literacy and career options in the banking sector for graduating students at the event.

Since 2013, MUFG has been actively involved in community work in appreciation of the outpouring global support for its home country during the Great East Japan earthquake disaster. The annual MUFG Gives Back global volunteer month encourages its teams across the globe to be agents of positive change and work with their respective communities to build an inclusive and supportive environment for a better future.

BTMU’s Colombo Representative Office was set up in January this year. It is the first representative office of any Japanese bank in Sri Lanka and aims to connect BTMU customers with licensed commercial banks and other corporate entities operating out of the country. As the only Japanese bank to operate in Sri Lanka, BTMU will also support Japanese companies seeking to invest or do business in Sri Lanka.
