The Colombo branch of the Past Pupils’ Association of the Convent of the Child Jesus, Ratnapura celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Grand Oriental Hotel, Colombo recently. A special souvenir was released to mark the event. The school which was started in 1924 by the Foreign Sisters of Charity is now a national school.

The Past Pupils’ Association of Convent of the Child Jesus National School, Ratnapura came into being on the 2nd of November 1996, with the good wishes and hopes of the late Sr. Margaret Mary, and Ranjani was the first President and Annette the Vice-President. Rev. Sister’s one wish was to unite all the past pupils of the school so that there would be a strong bond among them with much caring and sharing of past memories of their school days.
Twenty long years have passed, but it still seems like a flower that has just bloomed, fresh and fragrant. The members of the days gone by and the present day have ungrudgingly contributed their valuable time and energy with such dedication to ensure that this Association will continue for more precious years to come. The radiance that emanates from within, and the philanthropy of the members will continue to flourish, and the joy and contentment that comes with it will be contagious. The activities the members get involved in are numerous, the acts of charity countless, but above all, the affection, love and esteem they reciprocate like one big happy family is beyond words. The yeoman service rendered to anyone and everyone in need, expecting nothing in return, and all the generous and loving acts, could be bound together like a big bouquet of red roses, symbolizing love.
Love is something you possess in abundance; you will never run short of it, and it costs nothing to share it with others. If the world would only comprehend this, what a beautiful place it would be. This Association, formed by these fantastic members, is like a precious, priceless gem which never ceases to throw out its brilliant light.
Of course the roots of these members generate from the Convent of The Child Jesus, Ratnapura, the city well-known for its gems; so what could one expect but the best in quality and value.
