SL to mark first ever National Inventors Day

23 October, 2016

The National Inventors Day 2016 will be held on Wednesday, October 26 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Colombo.

“This is the first ever Inventors Day to be celebrated in Sri Lanka and the occasion will also mark the prize giving of the ‘Sahasak Nipeum’, the inventor awards ceremony.

There will be four ‘Dasis’ awards and other awards in four main categories including one for students.

“The main objective of the national Inventors Day is to take care of the inventors in Sri Lanka and maintain a register.

We will also assist them in obtaining patent rights and will bare the cost of the certification process for any applicant who seeks our help, Commissioner, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, Dr. C. Mahesh Edirisinghe said.

“While encouraging local inventors to find market places, we will also assist them to take part in international competitions to give them exposure.

We already have a web page for the Sri Lankan inventors,” he said.

Sri Lanka is the 14th country to celebrate a National Inventors Day. It falls on the birth anniversary of Dr. Kulasinghe. A commemorative stamp will also be issued on this day with Dr. Kulasinghe’s image.
